In this workshop you have so many choices! Make your own shade from scratch (a range of sizes and styles available) OR you can BYO vintage shade to makeover. All of this happens in our professional workroom located in beautiful rural surroundings just a few hours from Sydney on south coast NSW

About the event
What
This new workshop has a range of choices:
- You can choose from making a drum or tapered lampshade in a wide choice of sizes
- Your drum shade can have either a regular white lining, OR be lined with a fabric on the interior as well as exterior
- You can bring a vintage shade and make it over (great solution when you have a shade that fits a lamp perfectly but needs a refresh)
- All shade types are made from scratch, using trade-quality materials and using modern lampshade-making techniques
- By using your own fabric the result is not only unique but perfectly suited to your personal decor style - students are unfailingingly thrilled with their results!
- In this beginner-level workshop there is a min 3/max 6 students so you are guaranteed personal attention

Where
- Our workroom is located in beautiful rural surroundings at the end of a quiet country lane in Jamberoo
- We are a few hours south of Sydney and 15 mins inland from Kiama on the coast (plenty of accomodation options if you fancy coming for the weekend)

Difficulty
- No prior knowlegde, or skills are required - this is lampshade-making 1.01!
- Your tutor, professional shade-maker Kate, will be taking you step by step through each stage of the process - although shade-making certainly is fiddly, Kate strives to make this workshop as easy and enjoyable as possible
- Minimum age 16 years
- TIP: if you're not sure which type of shade to choose, it's recommend to start with an unlined drum option - because it's the easiest You'll learn about other options during the workshop, and can purchase kits in various styles and sizes to make at home.
Makeover Shades
- In this workshop it's possible to bring a vintage shade to makeover - but the shade must be pre-approved as suitable before booking
- Please email pics of your shade from different angles (inside and out) and if possible, showing it on the lamp you'll be using
- The rings need to be in good condition (unbent), and the wall of the shade needs to be in reasonable condition (we will be removing it and using it as a template for a new wall).
- The price will be confirmed following suitability confirmation
What's included
- All the supplies you'll need are included (except fabric*).. this includes professional quality adhesive backings, frames, and tools
- Morning tea (with homemade yummies)
- Notes summary, including a list of resources for future purchases
What to bring
- BYO fabric*
- If you have a pair of good fabric scissors please bring them, but no worries if you don't (I have plenty)
- If you have a pair of stretchy, well-fitting gardening gloves bring them (but these are optional, so no need to buy specially)
Fabric
- QTY: fabric qty is dependent on what shade option you choose - so this will be emailed in the detailed info sheet following booking
- BEST FABRIC TYPES: for this beginners' workshop are natural fibres (cotton or linen) such as Quilting fabrics or polycotton.
- DO NOT BRING: furnishing or upholstery weight; silky; stretchy; canvas; sheer or anything which frays easily.
- PREPARATION: your fabric must be cut to size and crease-free (ironed) before class.
What else
- Kits will be available to purchase so you can turn your lampshade into a pair, or make a different size, shape or lined shade at home

Cancellation
Due to the difficulties of refilling short-notice vacancies in small-group workshops I'm sorry but NO REFUNDS are available.
However - if you're unable to make it you can transfer your booking to a friend or family-member to attend in your place on the day.
